Story of the Shop on S.Whitted Street

 | | Not long after the move of Solutions in Wood from Springfield, MA, to the
basement of the Haynes home in Hendersonville, NC, Don answered an ad in
the paper looking for someone to share a commercial space for a
woodworking shop. He teamed up with George LaRue Downing, of Downing fine
Woodworking and the two set out renovating the space in an old ice house
at 422 S.Whitted Street, in Hendersonville. After removing a wall, an old
furnace and 8" thick layer of cork from the outside walls, they installed
a new floor, new heating system, new wiring, dust collection system and
painted, making a very professional space for all the specialized
equipment. By sharing costs, each is able to save on overhead and pass
their savings on to their customers.
